Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox, who led the team to the 1995 World Series title, has died at age 84, the club announced Saturday.

The Braves described their "treasured skipper" as the "best manager to ever wear a Braves uniform" in a statement praising his unmatched legacy in player development and game management.

Cox managed 2,504 games for 2,504 wins, fourth-most in major league history behind Connie Mack, Tony La Russa and John McGraw. He had two stints with Atlanta, from 1978-1981 and 1990-2010, plus Toronto from 1982-1985; earned Manager of the Year four times, including back-to-back seasons; and saw his No. 6 retired in 2011.

During his second Braves tenure, Cox guided the team to 14 division titles and every postseason from 1991-2005, excluding the strike-shortened 1994, with five World Series appearances overall. The Braves hold the major league record for his ejections and extended condolences to wife Pam, children and grandchildren; he entered the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
